Bio-diversity Conservation programme

This project is Supported by UNDP-SGP-GEF to sensitize the community on bio-diversity conservation and to create environmental awareness among the tribals of 50 villages of Sadar & Ghatagaon block of Keonjhar from Feb-2003 to Dec-05 and again from Apr-07 to Jun-09. Under this project 64 SHGs have been formed to undertake capacity building activities with regard to conservation of eco- system. 29 VSS formed and strengthened & 36 village level micro-plans developed and action initiated. 534 families trained & adopted kitchen gardening and producing vegetables there by supplementing their household level nutrition. 12.2 acres of land is under kitchen garden and 10 traditional varieties of vegetables are being conserved in those kitchen gardens. This has helped community to get nutritional food as well as economic benefit by which 10.2 acres of wasteland used for their household income and thereby restricting land degradation.
